1. One of my biggest accomplishment during my mentorship program was the opportunity to job shadow at two different offices. the first was under Lus, the assistant account payable at the DSCO office, here at UCLA. The second job shadowing I did was under George Gabballa, the Sr. Accounts Payable coordinator of the UCLA affiliated main administrating building at university village. During my time at these offices, I was taught useful clerical skills such as how to use UCLA accounting programs, check emails, answer phones and practice communication skills. I have also been offered the opportunity of job shadowing under Nina Purtell, the director of Human Resources at UCLA. There, I will be working twice a week for 2 hours each day learning more about human resources and office life. Along with Nina, I will also be shadowing under other team members. 2. Another one of the biggest accomplishments was completing two administration certificate courses though UCLA, Throughout the courses, I was given helpful tips I acquired from these courses, I will be able to develop the skill sets I need to be successful in an accounting or administration job. 3. My final accomplishment was being parts of Project Spell. This program was introduced to me by my mentor. It is a tutoring program conducted by students that is geared toward teaching English to UCLA employees. This program has really helped me to develop my speech, pronunciation, and spelling skills. these will benefit me in an office position because it will make communication easier. These accomplishments combined provided me with different skills and tools that i will be able to utilize, not only in the office, but in everyday life. 1. I have improved my leadership skills since joining the program, the monthly meetings gave me an opportunity to speak up without feeling embarrassed by creating a safe space. After I complete my graduation speech I believe I will have completed one of my top accomplishments. 2. Another accomplishment I am proud of is improving my confidence since I am shy and quiet. After a mentoring meeting I realized I didn’t have as many points when it came to being involved in my organization. After realizing that I became more involved in my organization like volunteering for RIF, and being part of the board for housing appeals. My networking skills have also definitely improved, and thanks to the mentoring program reaching out to people from different departments has been easier and faster. 3. Learning my strengths and weakness has also allowed me to get a better understanding of myself and gave me a sense of direction. It is good to compare what you see yourself like compared to what other people actually perceive you as. I’ve been working on getting better at prioritizing and for me finding out how to overcome blinds spots within strengths. This been an accomplishment for me because prior to the mentoring program I didn’t know about blind spots within strengths.
